re-imagining famous paintings Instagram Challenge In a time, where rules and restrictions almost suffocate what were once daily routines, creativity has also been more than challenged. Museums have been shuttered, concert venues and dates closed and cancelled, and theaters and opera houses, the world over, have emptied out. Although the limitations are almost unbearable at times, they have also created circumstances where artists and art have had to use new tools and ways to create and share. 44 Praxis & Karriere Art has always been an expression of either conveying or going beyond constraints. Einstein said, “Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” If anything, we have had to get creative both as teachers and as students to get through these difficult times. Throughout the corona pandemic, artists, authors, musicians, as well as museums, have had to turn to the Internet and use it, in some way or another, as their canvases and venues. Children’s book illustrators have offered YouTube drawing tutorials, musicians hosted online concerts, and there have been many Instagram challenges encouraging creative exercises. Our SMART students here at the HAK have also been asked to be creative in new ways. The first weeks of the crisis challenged them with tasks in creative photojournalism and encouraged them to document change around them and write about their experiences and feelings. Around Easter, with the situation still uncertain, and homeschooling more routine, they produced short videos explaining how they have adapted, or not, to #elearning and #stayingathome. One project was inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Rijksmuseum and the Getty Museum; these museums have encouraged Instagram challenges #mettwinning, #tussenkunstenquarantaine, #gettymuseumchallenge and have inspired thousands to examine art and recreate it and photograph it. Our students were up to the challenge and created wildly creative renderings of famous paintings. After seven weeks of being at home, it is becoming harder to find motivation, however, this project awakened the students. They turned in their assignments and wrote how fun the assignment was. So, while the #stayathome movement put restrictions and barriers on much of life, creativity at the HAK was not hindered! Titel??? Ashley Gundacker
