Name: Christine Hulsizer Age: 22 Nationality: USA Hometown: Davis, California Siblings: 1 brother School: High School Davis College/university: Williams Collage Favourite film: Meangirls Hobbies: running, playing the saxophone When did you come to Austria? I came to Austria in October. How long will you stay here? I will stay here for 1 year. How did you get your job here in Austria? In America there is a programme, it is called Fulbright. I applied there and then I’d choose the country I wanted to go to – that was Austria. I was accepted and that’s why I am here. What did you do on your first day in Austria? I had a Wiener Schnitzel, walked around and visited all the old things like churches, and I drove a lot on the highway because I arrived in Munich. Where and what did you study? At the Williams College, where I studied history. Which impression do you have of our school? I like it a lot, all people are nice and I am excited to be here. What do you like the most about Austria and the HAK? I like the food and the “Gemütlichkeit”. Which music do you listen to? At the moment I listen a lot to Vampire Weekend. What was your dream job when you were a child? I wanted to become a writer or an author, something like that. This was my dream. What do you miss of the US? I really miss my dog. And I also miss Mexican food, I love Mexican food so it’s gonna be a hard year. What is your favourite Austrian food? I like Gulasch very much. But I also like Knödel because it’s always like a surprise what’s inside the Knödel. We don’t have something like that in the US. What’s your favourite word in German? I think Gemütlichkeit is a good one. What is the difference between Austrian and American people? I think in America it’s easier to talk to the people when you take a walk on the street, that’s not that easy in Austria. The Austrians are more candid, they say what’s on their mind. What are the biggest contrasts between Austria and the USA? In Austria everything is so old. In the USA buildings away from 1920 are really old and here there are so many buildings that are more than 200 years old and it’s totally normal. What do you expect from your stay in Austria and at our school? I have never done something like that before, so I hope I will make a lot of new experiences and have fun, learn a lot and meet a lot of cool students and teachers.
