Thursday We travelied to Cambridge. It took us app. 3 hours by co- i ach. Cambridge is a wunderfui town north of London. The buildings there are very old und they were built in gothic style. Everything looks very exciusive. One of the oldest holy bible chapel Window series of the world is in Cambridge, it was built at the beginning of the middle-ages. Our guide, an old lady, told us some facts about important students. It was very Interesting. We were also allowed to take a look Into the library to see the handwritten books of Isaac Newton and other famous students. Also the old lady told US, that the students of Cambridge aren't allowed to go by car. So you can see a lot of bikes there, a few of them are many decades old. After the guiding tour we went to the market. We were very late for dinner this day, but luckily they prolonged the openinghours for this day due to our delay. I talked again with the people, who were living at the YMCA-hostel. This conversation was very good for my English. Later I entered a pub with my school-friends to celebrate the night. Friday The last day and the last 11 am walk in London. Jack the RIpper's London was shown to US by a female guide, she wasn't English either, she was of Canadian origin. She told us important facts about Jack the Ripper and she showed us the places where he kilied his victims. She had a very sarcastic humour. Before the guided-tour we visited the Tower and Tower-Bridge. By the way, this was the first rainy day in London. But It wasn't foggy. The male guide told us why there Is no more fog In London. After the tour the sun was shining again. In the evening we attended the Performance of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's musical „Starlight Express". Bad luck. It started to rain, when we leftthe YMCA bull ding, so everyone was wet. So we had to sit down in wet evening-dresses. The actors played very well und the llght and Special effects (especially the laserllght-show) were fascinating. After the Performance we had a night drive by bus through the streets of London's innercity. It was the last night in London, I feit very sad and I decided to travel to London again within the next months. The DeparLure cSaturday to dunday Departure was in the morning after breakfast. We left Wimbledon at 9.00 am and reached Ramsgate just in time for the ferry. It was a wonderfui sunny day and the sea was calm. I enjoyed the journey by ship. The coachdrivers used nearly the same route back to Austria and we had no problems with the customs. On Sunday morning 6.30 am we were back in Steyr. It was a very exhausting journey but great. It was a pity that the holidays ended 2 days later. God save the Queen and Great Britain! by Wilfried Elbs, IVc
